Today I moved my project’s repositories in Gitorious[0].

Everytime I wanted to push a script to Gitorious I had to create a new project, and doing that I had my scripts split in different project pages, and that bothered me, because the scripts are not so big as to need a whole project page for them. So, i created a new project to hold these scripts.

Now, the new project name is my Gitorious username[1] and there you can find my scripts, which are, so far, wpbkp[2, 3] and tweetMyPlanet[4, 5]. I also have an XChat2 plugin, written in python, named away++[6], that will soon be pushed to Gitorious.

To see my scripts/programs/code-related stuff, check out the Development[7] page.

now I find it necessary to use signed and encrypted
messages again.

So, I decided to create a new GPG Key.

From now on, I will not be using the old GPG Public Keys
anymore, consider them obselete.

My old Public Keys can be found at the PGP MIT Keyserver:

0xD8C343F9

0xE2156E47

0xE49EE420

My new Public Key is

Key fingerprint: 2F54 558E AC53 8BA7 FCEA 122B 6BCF 9A7B DDD5 6AF6

If you’d like to add my Public Key to your keyring, you can get it with:

Or from the MIT Public GPG Keyserver:

1

$ gpg --keyserver pgp.mit.edu --recv-key DDD56AF6

If you know me, or trust me, I’d appreciate it if you would sign my key:

Achei a idéia bem interessante e fui atrás da versão basileira desta conta, uma que divulgue os posts do Planeta Debian Brasil[2], mas não encontrei nenhum.

Então, tomei a liberdade de criar um: @planetadebianbr [3], e para automatizar o tweet de novos posts no Planeta criei um script que lê o RSS Feed do planet e twitta os posts que ainda não foram twittados. Chamei ele de TweetMyPlanet[4], e ele está sob a licença GPLv3.

First of all: HAPPY 19th BIRTHDAY, DEBIAN!

Recently, I have reinstalled Debian Wheezy in my notebook, and as usual I had problems with my NVidia graphics and Broadcom wireless cards.

The NVidia graphics card is for another post. In this one i`ll show you how to get your Broadcom wireless card to work in Debian Wheezy (which is frozen, by the time i write this), with kernel 3.2

My wireles card is: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01)

I tried to compile the driver, as i usually do (as you can see in an older post[0] i wrote about it), but nothing happened. I tried to follow the steps in Debian`s wiki[1] and in one of those steps i got a message saying that the driver did not support the kernel version i was using.

So i went to ask Google about it and i found out that it really has no support for kernel 3.2, yet. But luckly we have another way to get it working.

All you have to do is add the necessary repositories to the sources.list, update your packages list and install the firmware package:

1
2
3

# echo "deb http://ftp.br.debian.org/debian/ wheezy main contrib non-free" >> /etc/apt/sources.list
# apt-get update
# apt-get install firmware-linux-nonfree firmware-b43-installer # or firmware-b43-lpphy-installer

And there it is! Or, at least, it should be.

The firmware package to install will depend on your Broadcom wireless card. You can check you cards with the lspci command.

I found this information on VivaOLinux[2]

Last weekend, my girlfriend was looking some household appliances through the internet when she showed me this one specific page that caught my attention: Electrolux’s iKitchen line[0].

It’s a household appliances line that comes with a touch screen in all products, and the Operating System it runs is Linux.

The best part is that the source code is available[1] for everyone to download and play with it. Check the image below:

The link takes us to a repository page[1] that contains the packages and patches used in the development of the system that runs on the household appliances. Among the packages are the Busybox[2], the Enlightenment Foundation Libraries(EFL)[3] and Linux Kernel 2.6.31 [4].

After this, i think i found my household appliances

Yesterday, Raphaël Hertzog[0], announced that The Debian Administrator’s HandBook[1] is available.

The Debian Administrator’s HandBook is a book written by Raphaël Hertzog and Roland Mas, two Debian Developers. It was originally written in french, and now it has been translated into english.

You can browse the online version for free, or you can pay for it and get the paperback, or e-book version (in 3 formats: PDF, EPUB, Mobipocket)[2]

The book source is also available[3] for anyone who wants to contribute to the project.

With the book source available, we can expect a brazilian portuguese translation someday (as some people already commented on Raphaël’s announcement). As well as translations to other languages.
